Description

The Canton Friendship Center provides a social center for adults with mental, physical and/or developmental disabilities. The center offers a welcoming environment to meet with friends and to relax. Activities are planned and occur both inside and outside of the agency. The Canton Friendship Center also houses the Canton Center Payee Program, which provides money management services. Payee program representatives work closely with each client and other involved parties to create a budget which provides for living expenses as well as savings.

Description

Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health (C&A) is a full service, trauma-informed mental health organization specializing in the emotional and behavioral needs of children, adolescents, young adults and their families. Using evidence-based measures our highly skilled team of consultants and assessors provide screening or comprehensive evaluations for a wide variety of presenting concerns. C&A can provide psychological testing when specific circumstances warrant additional information. These may include but are not limited to: ADHD, early childhood and developmental concerns, trauma and/or loss, severe disruptive behaviors, sexually inappropriate and adjudicated juvenile offenders, and mood disorders. C&A also offers board-certified, child and adolescent psychiatric evaluations. Access to a developmental pediatrician is available for the early childhood population when needed.

C&A’s professional staff is trauma-informed and trained in evidence-based and clinical best practices. A number of staff are certified trauma specialists. Many of our services are provided in preschools and public schools around Stark County. Services are also provided in client’s homes and C&A offices located in Canton, Alliance and Massillon.  Parents are strongly encouraged to be an active member of the treatment team. Treatment services include: individual and family therapy, fun and effective group therapies, therapeutic residential camp, community support (case management), psychiatric medication management, and trauma focused day treatment. Additionally, C&A offers a variety of parenting groups, including Incredible Years, community consultations, presentations and workshops.

Access to care is easy via telephone. Others choose to “walk-in” at one of our main locations. We are able to see most customers for their first appointment in less than one week from their initial call. Urgent care needs are offered same day appointments. Treatment works. Working together we can assess, treat, and develop effective strategies to help you and your family deal with even the most serious emotional and behavioral problems. Private insurance, Medicaid, and self pay are accepted. Possible fee subsidy based on income.

Coleman Behavioral Health - Stark County serves adults with severe and/or persistent mental illness through award-winning services provided by our trained and licensed staff members.  We provide psychiatric assessments and prescribe and monitor medication. Description

Community Services of Stark County (CSSC) shall serve all persons with dignity and respect.  We shall empower individuals and families to enhance the quality of their lives through support, advocacy, training, and counseling.  Services:  CSSC provides an array of mental health services for children, adolescents, adults and families.  Mental health services include: Counseling for individuals, couples, families, and groups; CPST (case management); psychiatric services; hi-fidelity wraparound; supported employment; supportive housing; and school-based mental health and consultation services.  In addition to mental health services, CSSC also offers an array of social services across Stark County.  The social services include:  Emergency Assistance, Prescription Assistance, Samaritan's Table (hot meal program), Homeless Prevention Services, Family Living Center (homeless shelter), Maternity and Adoption Services, Parenting Services, Rape Crisis Services for the Alliance area, Early Childhood Services, Job Development Services for adults and youth, an Abstinence Education Program, and a Professional Development Training Program.

Description

The Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center provides crisis intervention and stabilization as well as assessment and linkage to needed services for all Stark County residents experiencing a Mental Health or a Drug/ Alcohol Crisis, and Hotline services 24 hours a day, every day. Other special programs provided by our organization at the Crisis Center include: Crisis Stabilization Unit, a 12-bed unit designed to stabilize and treat mental health/psychiatric problems requiring short term residential care; Detox unit, a six- bed unit to detoxify and treat alcohol/chemical dependency; Free Space, a compassionate and intensive program for women who are victims of domestic violence; Survivors, a self-help support and advocacy group for those who have lost someone to suicide; CANTON CARES, a program that calls senior citizens daily to check on their well-being.

Programs available at the Recovery Center include Outpatient Services, community based treatment for adults with  mental health, chemical abuse or dependency and/or co-occurring mental health and chemical abuse or dependency issues; Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT)/Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), intensive treatment program for individuals with moderate to severe mental health and chemical dependency issues; the Helping Offenders Psychologically & Emotionally (H.O.P.E.) Program, community based treatment for individuals with mental illness through court referral; and the Forensic Track for those individuals found not guilty by reason of  insanity or incompetent to stand trial.

Substance Abuse Prevention - Prevention Education                                                                                                         Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) is a "Top Tier" program of The Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy which educates students on avoiding risky behaviors including drug, alcohol and tobacco use and builds skills of resilience. 

Other - Additional services in the agency's continuum of care include:  24 hour crisis hotline, emergency shelters in Canton and Massillon, on-site childcare, legal advocacy in Canton and Massillon courts, and prevention/intervention education in county schools and with law enforcement, legal professionals, educators, medical personnel and the community at large.  Breaking the cycle of violence begins with prevention.  DVPI programming includes Dating Violence Prevention and evidence-based programsSafe Dates Adolescent Dating Abuse Prevention Curriculum, a CSAP/SAMHSA Model addresses prevention and intervention as students develop awareness of what constitutes healthy and abusive dating relationships, learn skills to develop good relationships, as well as skills and resources to help themselves or friends in abusive dating relationships.

Description

Foundations is a peer-run organization that promotes mental health recovery through peer support, education, networking and advocacy.  Foundations has a mental health library plus volunteer opportunities to earn bus passes and gas cards.  Services include volunteer bus rider mentor program, planned social and educational events and support groups.  Foundations offers a variety of classes and groups.  Foundations also has a warm line 330-455-1234 to provide an empathetic ear.  All calls are completely confidential.  Foundations also offers an on-site respite facility, the only peer-run respite facility in the state of Ohio, staffed by volunteers who are also consumers.

Description

ICAN provides permanent supportive housing for low-income persons with disabling mental illnesses.  Individualized training and encouragement helps tenants follow their leases and retain their housing. Housing is available within ICAN-owned properties and in rental subsidies that can be used in private market apartments.  ICAN’s PATH Specialist reaches out to homeless persons whose behaviors indicate a diagnostic assessment is appropriate.  PATH also helps the homeless find shelter or affordable housing options. ICAN's Basic Accommodations serves individuals with repeated incidents of homelessness who need more intense services to become ready for more independent housing. All ICAN housing is based on the Housing First model.  ICAN acts a fiscal agent for projects based programs that do not need an ongoing business identity.

NAMI Stark County is an affiliate of the nation’s largest grass-roots organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons and families impacted by mental illness through free education, support and advocacy services. 

NAMI has a variety of Support Groups for consumers and family members in Canton and Alliance:

Family-to-Family is a free 12-week program for family members teaching about the illnesses, treatments, coping, communication strategies, and problem-solving skills. 

Hand-to-Hand is a free 9-week program for parents and care-givers of children/adolescents with emotional/behavioral problems that focus on diagnosis, treatment, coping and parenting strategies and the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) process.

Peer-to-Peer is a free 9-week program for adults with a mental illness that focus on symptom recognition, relapse prevention and wellness strategies.

Spotlight on Youth works to promote and increase the health, safety and well being of youth.  Using teen actors in live dramatic presentations, showing real life situations, Spotlight educates students relative to social issues and dangers affecting their lives and works to decrease violence, substance abuse and other issues facing them.  At the elementary level, dramas are interactive for effective audience participation.  At the secondary level, actors remain in character for dramatic follow-up discussions with audience.  Excellent opportunities for young people to act and work with their peers in this program designed to "save lives through the arts."

Phoenix Rising is a private, non-profit community mental health agency providing services that “empower and strengthen individuals and families in their growth and recovery”. Description

TASC case management combines clinically-focused, multi-system service coordination with holistic, self-directed techniques of recovery management to create a unique client service approach. TASC programs focus on building wellness and self-sufficiency as they address the complex needs of clients and public systems. The components of the TASC clinical case management model include: identification, screening, and assessment.  TASC uses clinical screens and assessments to identify the nature and extent of clients’ needs. In addition to clinical measures, client strengths and support networks are considered to determine appropriate treatment and services. Drug testing may be used to determine clinical service needs, set a standard of accountability, and provide baseline information on the nature of clients’ drug use.
