A Little About Us…

On January 1, 2008, the Stark County Community Mental Health Board and the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of Stark County were combined into one behavioral health organization and renamed the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Stark County. The leadership Board of the new organization is made up of eighteen members from the Stark County community. These include ten appointments from the Stark County Commissioners, four appointments from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and four appointments from the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services. Since coming together, our Board has worked tirelessly to bring these two important resources together for the betterment of our community.

Today we provide nearly $37 million in funding to 21 behavioral health organizations working in our community. Our primary sources of funding come from the Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH) and the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS), from a local levy and from other state and federal grants.

Both the MHRSB Board and staff are committed to ensuring that the behavioral health needs of Stark County residents are met in the most efficient, economic and effective way possible. We oversee and fund agencies in Stark County that provide mental health and substance abuse prevention, intervention and treatment and are responsible for assessing the needs of the community and ensuring that a continuum of care is in place. We act as a safety net for the community, providing services to people who could not access them due to a lack of resources.

While client care is our number one focus,we also serve as the voice of advocacy for our community. We work with our state and local legislators and other community stakeholders to ensure we are communicating with influential legislators on behalf of people who struggle with mental illness and addiction issues.

Finally, the MHRSB is committed to providing educational opportunities for our provider network staff and, when appropriate, to the greater community at-large. We are pleased to offer a robust training schedule ranging from half-day sessions to several conference-style opportunities for more in-depth learning experiences.

The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Stark County enriches lives through wellness and recovery by partnering with service provider agencies in the areas of mental health and alcohol and drug addiction prevention, intervention and treatment. The members of the Board, as well as staff employed by the Board, are committed to ensuring that all mental health or alcohol and drug prevention, intervention and treatment services are of the highest quality possible.
