The Stark County Anti-Drug Coalition recently was awarded a five year federal grant to build and sustain the coalition through the Drug Free Communities Support Program. As a result of this grant, the coalition will be able to continue its activities and achieving the vision of "Stark County citizens living in an educated, healthy community that is purposefully drug-free."

The Drug Free Communities Support Program Grant goals:

  • To reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing the factors in a community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.
  • To establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private nonprofit agencies, and Federal, State, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.

Goals for the Stark County Anti-Drug Coalition under Drug Free Communities:

  • Enhance and expand efforts to address the specific problems of underage drinking, tobacco and marijuana use by Stark County youth.
  • Strengthen and mobilize collaboration that improves community efforts to promote and implement effective, research based prevention strategies.
  • Reduce risk factors and promote protective factors that influence age of onset, substance use among youth, perceptions of risk or harm, and perception of disapproval of use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
