What is IMR?

The Illness Management and Recovery program (IMR) is an educational process where a person works with case managers, therapists, and peer coaches to make changes in his/her life.

IMR will:

  • assist you in making progress in your personal journey of recovery
  • help you to more effectively partner with mental health staff and peer coaches to reach your goals

There are nine education topics of the program:
1. recovery strategies
2. facts about mental illness
3. stress-vulnerability
4. building social support
5. using medications effectively
6. reducing relapses
7. coping with stress
8. coping with problems and symptoms
9. getting your needs met in the mmental health system.

Participating in the IMR program will help you accomplish important personal goals. Once you agree to participate in the IMR program, you and your case manager/therapist will discuss the program to decide which of the topics is most important to you.
