Foundations is a business run by persons with a history of mental illness. They offer assistance to peers in ways that will empower and improve their quality of life; e.g. assistance with advocacy, education, employment and other needed community services. Foundations members staff the Warm Line (330-455-1234) which is available for persons who want someone to speak with or have something to discuss that is not of an emergency nature.
Foundations was founded in 1993. Foundations' goal is to:
Provide opportunities to people with a history of mental illness to gain more economic, social and psychological control over their lives through peer support, education, advocacy and work.
Foundations has provided training, placement and job coaching for persons with a history of mental illness to work in the community mental health field.
Foundations has contracted with the Stark County Community Mental Health Board and is programing one-on-one consumer surveys that were designed and administered by consumers. They are being analyzed and reported by consumers. The results will assist the mental health board in making decisions about funding and services.
Foundations is a charter member of the statewide Buckeye Peer Support Coalition and participates in statewide peer support training.
Foundations is a member of Ohio Advocates for Mental Health, a statewide organization which promotes recovery and independence for people who have experienced mental illness.
